Reports out of the Philadelphia Phillies are that rookie WR Jeremy Maclin looked great in mini-camps. Maclin is going to be used an all facets of the Eagles offense and on special teams. You can’t tell much when the players are running around in shorts during mini-camps, but Maclin was running quick, precise routes. He showed great hands and feet.
The folks over at the Bleacher Report put together a mock interview with Eagles rookie Jeremy Maclin. Below are the fake questions they would ask him. Are there any questions you would like to see added to the list? What do you think some of his answers would be?
Q: How do you foresee your transition from a spread-style offense at Missouri to the West Coast offense run by the Eagles?
Q: DeSean Jackson had a impressive rookie season in 2008. What can you take from his success in trying to have a successful rookie year?
Q: You were projected to be drafted as high as seventh overall to the Oakland Raiders. You fell to 19th. Do you feel any resentment over teams passing you by and does it motivate you to make them regret doing so?
Q: What do you bring to the table to be utilized in this offense?
Q: How does it feel to have the opportunity to play with a quarterback the caliber of Donovan McNabb?
Q: The learning curve for a wide receiver typically lasts into the second season. How quickly do you think you can absorb the offense and execute it efficiently?
Q: Finish this sentence. My ultimate career goal is…

Jeremy Maclin, the two-time All-American, announced his widely expected decision to turn pro last Friday — but not before breaking down in tears at the microphone before a crowd of media, teammates and coaches. Over the past two years, Maclin has been a threat on all aspects to the offense and special teams. He can run the ball, catch the ball and return punts/kicks. He has the speed and ability to succeed on the next level.
Missouri Tigers fans will be sad to see him go, but for Maclin, heading to the NFL is in his best interest. Jeremy will most likely be a first round pick, which means a couple million dollars in guaranteed money. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound sophomore caught 102 passes for Missouri this season while leading the nation with 2,833 all-purpose yards.
On Monday, Missouri standout WR/KR Jeremy Maclin was quoted as saying “Any sophomore or junior who leaves early and doesn’t go in the first round, that’s not a very smart decision. If you can’t refine your game this last year or two years to get to that point, I don’t understand what the point is.” Now, Jeremy is a redshirt sophomore, so even though this is only his second season on the field, it is his 3rd season out of high school… thus making him eligible for the NFL Draft.
The question is… will Jeremy be a first round pick? Based on the above quote, we’d have to assume that he will return to Missouri if he isn’t. Maclin is currently ranked No. 7 overall by Scouts Inc.’s Top 32 list on ESPN.com. NFLdraftdog.com projects Maclin as the 27th pick of the first round and FootballFutures.com has him as the 13th pick.
Those are all pretty good indications that he will be a first round pick. Maclin is very similar to Ted Ginn Jr. a few years ago. Ginn even busted his ankle up in the final game of the year and was still a first round pick. Plus with Chase Daniel leaving, there’s no telling what will happen to Mizzou next year.

Jeremy Maclin of the Missouri Tigers was named Big 12 Special Teams Player of the week. Here’s what ESPN had to say about his performance.
Missouri WR/KR Jeremy Maclin: He became the second player in Missouri history to record two career kickoff returns for a touchdown with his second quarter 99-yard return against Illinois. He had 201 return yards in the game, including 145 yards on three kickoff returns and 56 yards on four punt returns. Maclin now has four combined kick/punt return TDs in two years in college, the most in school history. He finished with 234 all-purpose yards, including four receptions for 31 yards.
USA Today wrote an article about the top 5 favorite Non-QB Heisman candidates. On the list were Knowshon Moreno, Chris Wells, Michael Crabtree, Ian Johnson, and your very own Jeremy Maclin. Here’s what they had to say about him:
Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri: Could be hurt by having a Heisman Trophy favorite on his team in Chase Daniel. Maclin rushed for 375 yards and 4 TDs, caught 80 passes for 1,055 ards and 9 TDs and returned three kicks for 3 TDs. Desmond Howard in 1991 showed what a combination back can do for your Heisman chances. The game against Texas on Oct. 18 will say a lot for his and Daniel’s chances.
I’m not sure having Chase Daniel will hurt Maclins chances at becoming a Heisman winner. Reggie Bush won a Heisman with Matt Leinart on the team. What Maclin needs to do to secure a spot in college football history is make big plays in big games. He needs to have that “Heisman moment”.
Stu Durando of the St. Louis Today newspaper wrote an awesome article about Jeremy Maclin and his progress this offseason. The Missouri Tigers just started practice a few days ago, and already Maclin is wowing the coaching staff. Check out what Stu said:
We already had been told that receiver Jeremy Maclin is bigger, faster and stronger than last season, and now it appears, also quicker, according to coach Gary Pinkel.
We had seen what he can do with raw talent: 80 catches, 375 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns and a ridiculous amount of versatility in his first collegiate season.
Now we’re told that Maclin has added another weapon to his repertoire. He has discovered how to practice efficiently. And that’s no joke. That’s how a good player gets better, and Pinkel said Maclin has figured it out.
“His practice habits are completely different,” Pinkel said Tuesday morning. “Now you see him and he has good habits. When you have that, then fundamentally you get better. His one-on-one routes will be better along with his awareness and knowing the defenses and adjustments and the complexities of what we do on offense.”
Pinkel has seen the evidence in only two days of practice. He knows that opposing defenses are going to do everything imaginable to stop Maclin and Chase Daniel from destroying their Saturdays.
Pinkel seems to welcome that approach. In the Cotton Bowl, Arkansas did its best to slow Maclin, and he was held to three catches for 32 yards but the Tigers’ running game exploded.
“We see everything there is (from defenses) and work against just about everything there is,” Pinkel said. “What we do with Maclin is move him. He’s all over the field. We can put Chase Coffman to further side receiver or tight in the slot and the same with Jeremy Maclin. So, it’s very difficult unless you want to line up in just man and cover one guy or double because sometimes he’s at running back. He’s all over the place.”
If this doesn’t scare the crap out of opposing defenses then I don’t know what will. I originally thought Michael Crabtree would be the best WR in the Big 12, but after reading this… I’m thinking Jeremy may win that award.
The Big 12 recently held their Media Days in Kansas City. Along with Coach Pinkel, the Missouri Tigers invited QB Chase Daniel, TE Chase Coffman, S Williams Moore, and WR Jeremy Maclin to participate in the conferences. “Just trying to get a feel of how everybody is thinking. Getting different views from different schools,” said Jeremy.
The Tigers are picked to win the Big 12 North and anything short of a BCS bid will be a disappointment. They have one of the most explosive offenses in college football and a very strong defense. Maclin said, “If you just repeat what you did last year, that’s not getting better at all. You can’t settle for what you did last year. You have to get better, stat-wise, as an offense, as a whole team, chemistry and everything has to get better.”
One thing cool that came out of the Media Days was a quote by Chase Daniel. It’s funny, yet true. He said, “I have the best job in America where I can throw a 10-yard out route to Jeremy Maclin and he’ll take it 80 yards against Texas A&M. I am very blessed in that aspect.”

Phil Steele, who publishes the College Football Preview magazine, posted his Big 12 All Conference Team for 2008. These are just preseason rankings, because obviously the season hasn’t started yet. Our favorite Missouri Tiger, Jeremy Maclin, was selected on the 1st Team Offense for the wide receiver position and 2nd Team Special Teams for kick returner and punt returner.
You can check out Phil Steele’s entire rankings here.
If his projection are any indication to how the season might turn out, then it will be a great year for Jeremy Maclin. With honors like this, then he will surely go pro after the 2008 football season and enter the 2009 NFL Draft. It would not be a surprise if he were a first round pick and the top WR taken.
