The Philadelphia Eagles handed the Kansas City Chiefs a 34-14 loss yesterday in Philly. Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook were not in action for the game. This meant it was time for the rookies to show up and prove themselves right? Well, it was true for McCoy but not so much for Jeremy Maclin, who still can’t seem to see regular action on the field.
Jeremy did improve his receptions number from last week though. He went from 2 to 4 receptions. In yesterday’s game, Maclin had 4 receptions for 33 yards (8.3 average) and one rushing attempt for -1 yards. He was also involved in a punt return, but it went for -3 yards.
Not having McNabb on the field could contribute to Maclin’s lack of production. Kobb just can’t see the field like McNabb can, plus he seems to be locked in on Celek and Jackson.
The Eagles are now 2-1 and have a bye week coming up.

The Philadelphia Eagles do know they drafted a WR/RB/KR extraordinare in the 2009 NFL Draft don’t they? So why are they not getting Jeremy Maclin involved in the games? The Eagles were in a shootout with the Saints on Sunday, but Maclin was rarely seen. He had only 2 receptions for 12 yards, no carries and only 1 kickoff return (for 7 yards).
I understand that McNabb was injured and Kolb may not be comfortable with some of the starters… but why are guys like Celek and Avant grabbing 7-8 balls each and Maclin only gets 2? That is not the formula for success. They drafted Maclin because of his great hands and speed. Why are they not using him? I’m not advacating they do trick plays or anything like that… I’m just saying get the guy 5-7 touches a game!
The Eagles have Buffalo next week so things won’t get any eaiser.

The Philadelphia Eagles are hosting the New Orleans Saints this Sunday. The Saints are a high scoring team, so with a little luck we’ll see some points on the board. In week 1, Jeremy Maclin was on the field but failed to record any offensive stast. In his defense, Jake Delhomme threw like 8 interceptions and the game was out of hand by halftime. I was surprised that the Eagles didn’t use Jeremy in special teams at all.
With the Saints coming to town, I expect there to be a lot of scoring. They don’t have a good defense and they like to throw the ball. If this game turns into a shootout, the Eagles might put up some points but I doubt they’ll win… especially if McNabb doesn’t play. The Eagles need to be creative and find way to get Maclin some touches, whether he’s used in the slot or some type of wildcat formations. He has too much speed and ability to waste.
Other rookies like Percy Harvin and Louis Murphy had big games last weekend. It’s time for Maclin to step up into the national spotlight.
